Pretty much everyone is talking about word-wide protests and the Occupy movement constantly right now. I talk about it pretty much every day because every day something new happens. With its beginnings I have come to think about how I view the system. The way I look at how economics and social issues relate to each other has evolved drastically as I’ve returned to studying critical theory like Marx, Weber, feminist economists and systems theorists………

An eloquent exploration of the “vengeance meme” and a lovely call to our humanity. Well worth the read…
Silence Poisons the Soul…

43. Dorcas Gustine
I was not beloved of the villagers,
but all because I spoke my mind,
and met those who transgressed against me
with plain remonstrance, hiding nor nurturing
nor secret griefs nor grudges.
That act of the Spartan boy is greatly praised,
who hid the wolf under his cloak,
letting it devour him, uncomplainingly.
It is braver, I think, to snatch the wolf forth
and fight him openly, even in the street,
amid dust and howls of pain.
The tongue may be an unruly member -
but silence poisons the soul.
Berate me who will – I am content.
- Edgar Lee Masters (1868 – 1950)

Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink and swore his last oath. Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever.

A zero-budget film that wonders about the possibilities of truly knowing anyone. It also happens to have been created by my younger sister…. :0)

“It doesn’t seem to me that this fantastically marvelous universe, this tremendous range of time and space and different kinds of animals, and all the different planets, and all these atoms with all their motions, and so on, all this complicated thing can merely be a stage so that God can watch human beings struggle for good and evil — which is the view that religion has. The stage is too big for the drama.”

So, they say (whoever they are) that worry is the misuse of imagination. Whatever. I’m good at it…my worrying skills are finely honed. Self torture is my forte, my art. Why on earth would I want to give that up? WHY?

It’s not about the destination…it’s about the fucking journey, blah, blah, blah. I could go on about how my life is essentially good-but I don’t want to. Is it so bad to be ambivalent? Where is it written that I have to be grateful for every last little thing? That happiness hinges on finding the silver lining? Fuck that. Fuck your silver lining. Sometimes life simply sucks.
